Meet Tara Goel, a rising junior double majoring in Environmental Studies & International Development Studies! Despite her Indian heritage, she was originally born in the UAE, before moving to Switzerland and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Along with Amanda Mooney, Tara also worked with Chefs to End Hunger to develop their marketing and fundraising strategy. Outside of Net Impact, she is involved with Refine LA as its social chair, and she sits on the board of the Photography Club at UCLA. This summer, Tara was busy interning remotely at a CSR project led by Google, Intel, and Tata.
Why did you join Net Impact?
I joined Net Impact because it offers me an amazing opportunity that combines my interest in both my majors. Net Impact’s values and mission of finding the intersection between business and social impact truly resonate with me and is something that I hope to work in.
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about sustainable development where the economy, environment, and social equity are in harmony. I am excited to see more and more companies incorporating this into their business plans. I truly believe this is the way forward for the private sector.
What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned from Net Impact?
Through Net Impact I have met so many people who have similar and yet diverse interests as me and it’s been so helpful to navigate what life will be like after graduation and prepare for it – from sharing our concerns to casing together. I value the people I’ve met and what I have learned from them.
What is your favorite memory from Net Impact?
My favorite memory from Net Impact would have to be the time we went out to First Fridays in Venice. It was the first social we had after I joined, and it really just broke the ice. I got to know so many of the members on a personal basis and had a great time.
What are your hobbies?
I am an avid diver. I’m a licensed PADI Rescue Diver and whenever I’m home in Southeast Asia I try to make time to go on a dive. I love exploring the underwater world and seeing so many amazing marine species. I’ve combined my passion for conservation by working on coral reef restoration projects through my diving.
